Golaghat: Panic swept through Upper Langtha village under Barpathar in Assam’s Golaghat district after a tiger attacked two villagers on Sunday, leaving them seriously injured. The injured have been identified as Paresh Buragohain and Debananda Buragohain, both residents of the village. They reportedly sustained severe injuries to their faces, hands, neck, back and waist during the sudden attack.

According to local sources, the incident took place when the two men were plucking berries in a field orchard near the village. The tiger allegedly emerged without warning and pounced on them, triggering chaos in the area. Hearing their cries for help, villagers rushed to the spot and managed to rescue them before immediately shifting them to Barpathar Hospital for medical treatment. Personnel from Assam Police, including officials from Barpathar Police, reached the scene shortly after being informed. However, local residents have alleged that the Forest Department has yet to take adequate measures to capture or drive away the tiger from the vicinity.
The attack has spread fear among villagers, with many expressing concern over possible further movement of the animal in the area. Residents have urged the authorities to take immediate steps to ensure safety and prevent any recurrence of such incidents.
