Two Women Arrested in Manipur for Alleged Illegal Arms Trade, Hand Grenade Seized

Manipur Police on Wednesday, July 29 arrested two women in Imphal East district for their alleged involvement in the illegal procurement, transportation and sale of arms and explosives, officials said.

The arrests were made at Shanta Bazar under the jurisdiction of Andro Police Station. The accused have been identified as Ruhida Begum (46) and Rohana Begum (18).

According to police, the two women had allegedly brought a hand grenade to Shanta Bazar with the intention of selling it to a prospective buyer. Acting on specific intelligence inputs, police intercepted the suspects and recovered the explosive from their possession.

Both accused have been taken into custody, while the seized hand grenade has been secured by the police.

Officials said an investigation is underway to determine the origin of the grenade and identify any other individuals who may be connected to the alleged illegal arms procurement and distribution network.
