Udalguri, June 14: A public farewell ceremony was organised in Udalguri on June 14 to honour Manojjwal Gogoi, Officer-in-Charge of Udalguri Sadar Police Station, following his transfer. The programme, held at the Shaheed Munin Das Memorial Auditorium, was organised by the Udalguri Regional Students’ Union and witnessed the participation of representatives from various organisations, institutions and social groups.
The event was conducted by Bitopan Das, president of the All Udalguri District Students’ Union. During the ceremony, several organisations felicitated Gogoi with traditional Assamese gifts, including phulam gamosas, aronais, chelengs, jaapis and books, in recognition of his service and contribution to maintaining law and order in the district.
Among those who felicitated the outgoing police officer were Udalguri Regional Students’ Union president Arnav Jan Oja and secretary Pranjal Baruah. Representatives of the Udalguri Sahitya Sabha, including president Nripendra Sharma, secretary Manju Kumar Talukdar and lifelong member Gagan Lahkar, also paid tribute to Gogoi. Similar honours were extended by Bishnu Rabha Kristi Sangha secretary Pulin Das and members of the Udalguri Press Club, led by president Gunjit Das and secretary Akhil Kalita.
Representatives of the 69th All Udalguri Rongali Bihu Sanmilan, including president Dalim Bayan, working president Akhil Kalita, general secretaries Ajay Kalita and Ratul Das, along with Gautam Jyoti Talukdar, working president of the permanent committee, also participated in the programme and felicitated the officer.
The ceremony was attended by members of the Harisinga Regional Students’ Union represented by Jitul Oja, the Udalguri Regional Rabha Students’ Union, and the Koch Rajbongshi Students’ Union represented by Bhoben Rajbongshi. The Udalguri Lekhika Samaj, represented by president Rijumoni Barman, secretary Anjali Talukdar and cultural secretary Anjali Das, was also present.
Other organisations taking part in the farewell included the Udalguri Merchants’ Association represented by secretary Himangshu Das, Dharbi Communication, National Award-winning retired teacher Pratibha Chaharia, Nayan Das and the Purani Garaibari Durga Puja Management Committee, among others.
Speakers at the programme praised Manojjwal Gogoi for his sincerity, professional dedication and cordial relationship with the public and wished him success in his future assignments.
