ULFA-I Claims Responsibility for ‘Operation Revenge’ on Army Camp in Kakopathar

Guwahati: The banned militant outfit, ULFA (Independent), has taken responsibility for the recent late-night assault on an Indian Army camp in Kakopathar, Tinsukia district, an attack that left three army personnel injured. In a statement released shortly after the incident, the group claimed the operation and named it “Operation Revenge.”

The coordinated strike took place late last night, targeting the Army installation with multiple grenades and sustained heavy gunfire. Reports indicate that the assault began around 12:30 AM with the firing of three Under Barrel Grenade Launchers (UBGLs), followed by nearly 30 minutes of continuous gunfire. The intense exchange of fire and explosions created widespread panic among residents, with the deafening sounds echoing across the town for almost an hour, leaving many terrified and sleepless.

Preliminary information gathered from the scene suggests that a group of militants arrived in a truck to execute the assault. While ULFA (Independent)’s claim corroborates the reported injuries to three Indian Army personnel, the full extent of the damage to the camp remains to be assessed.

Following the attack, security forces immediately moved to secure the area, cordoning off the site and restricting public movement near the camp. Both the Army and the local police have initiated intensive search operations in and around Kakopathar in an effort to trace and apprehend the assailants, whose involvement the authorities had already suspected would be the banned ULFA (Independent) group.
