An unidentified woman was found dead in a field at Garaimari in Assam’s Nagaon district on Monday morning, prompting police to launch an inquiry into her identity and the circumstances of her death.
Local residents discovered the body while out for their morning walk and alerted the authorities after gathering at the spot.
A team from Jajori Police Station reached the area and recovered the body. Police have not yet established the identity of the deceased or disclosed details about how she died.
The body has been taken into police custody as investigators work to determine the woman’s identity and establish the cause and circumstances of her death.
The discovery was reported as campaigning continues for the Nagaon Lok Sabha by-election. However, there was no confirmed information linking the death to the ongoing election campaign.
