Guwahati: Malayalam actor Unni Mukundan has been cast as Prime Minister Narendra Modi in an upcoming biopic titled Maa Vande. The announcement came on Wednesday, coinciding with Modi’s 75th birthday, along with the release of the film’s title poster.
Directed by Telugu filmmaker Kranthi Kumar, the film carries the tagline “The Anthem of a Mother” and will trace Modi’s journey from childhood to his rise as India’s leader, with a special focus on his bond with his late mother, Heeraben Modi.
Produced by Veer Reddy M under Silver Cast Creations, the film will release in Hindi, English, and several regional languages. The makers have yet to announce its full cast and release date.
Kranthi Kumar described the project as a long-cherished dream, adding, “It’s an honor to direct the biopic of our Prime Minister, Narendra Modi Ji. This film is especially meaningful as it highlights his deep bond with his mother. I am grateful for the support of Andhra Pradesh Health Minister Satya Kumar Yadav Ji and producer Veer Reddy.”

Mukundan, who grew up in Ahmedabad, called the role both “challenging and inspiring.” He said, “It is a privilege to play Prime Minister Modi in Maa Vande. I knew him first as my Chief Minister, and meeting him in 2023 was unforgettable. While his political journey is well-known, this film will explore his personal side, particularly his relationship with his mother. The Gujarati phrase ‘Jhookvanu Nahi’ (Never Bow Down) has always inspired me.”
The technical team includes some of India’s top names: cinematographer K. K. Senthil Kumar (RRR), editor Sreekar Prasad, production designer Sabu Cyril (Baahubali), composer Ravi Basrur (KGF), and action choreographer King Solomon (Baahubali, RRR, Kalki 2898 AD).
