Tinsukia/Sivasagar: Passengers at the old Tinsukia Railway Station are facing severe hardship due to the deplorable condition of toilet facilities, leading to serious allegations of negligence by Railway authorities. One of the oldest and busiest railway stations in Upper Assam, Tinsukia handles thousands of commuters daily, yet lacks access to basic and hygienic sanitation facilities.
The station has two toilets, meant separately for men and women, but both are reportedly in a completely unusable condition. Lack of regular cleaning, poor maintenance and damaged infrastructure have rendered the toilets unfit for use. Passengers, particularly women, senior citizens and children, are forced to suffer during long waiting hours or leave the station premises in search of alternatives.
Commuters have expressed anger over what they describe as blatant neglect, especially at a time when the Railways earn lakhs of rupees annually from passenger services and commercial activities. Many view the failure to provide essential amenities as extremely unfortunate and insensitive.

The issue was highlighted on January 5 at around 4 pm when concerned citizens personally inspected the toilet facilities and found them in a pathetic state. An attempt to lodge a complaint with the station master was unsuccessful due to his absence, and the complaint register was reportedly not available, further adding to public frustration.
Passengers allege that such neglect reflects a pattern of apathy toward Assam and the Northeast. They have urged the Railway authorities to take immediate action to repair and maintain the toilets, ensure regular cleaning, and restore proper grievance redressal mechanisms. Without swift intervention, commuters fear the situation will continue to cause avoidable hardship and undermine passenger dignity.
