UPPL Releases ‘People’s Manifesto’ Ahead of Assam Polls

Kokrajhar: The United People’s Party Liberal (UPPL) on Thursday unveiled its election manifesto in Kokrajhar ahead of the April 9 Assam Assembly polls, outlining a roadmap focused on inclusive development and lasting peace in the Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR). Expressing confidence, Boro said the party aims to play a decisive role in forming a “pro-marginalised, people-centric government.”

A key focus of the document is maintaining peace and harmony through dialogue, including the formation of subdivision-level peace committees and full implementation of the BTR Peace Accord, 2020. The party also proposed strengthening governance by increasing MCLA constituencies and seeking direct central funding for the BTR. On land rights, UPPL promised distribution of pattas to landless families and resolution of pending disputes. In education, it proposed promoting regional languages like Rabha, Koch-Rajbongshi, and Santali.

The manifesto highlights expansion of scholarships, establishment of institutions such as a Central University in Baksa and an NIT in Udalguri, and improvements in healthcare services. Economic measures include infrastructure development, irrigation expansion, and support for farmers, alongside youth-focused skill development and employment initiatives. Environmental protection and eco-tourism also feature prominently. With polling nearing, UPPL has urged voters to support its vision for a peaceful and developed BTR.
