Guwahati: The University of Science and Technology Meghalaya (USTM) has announced the launch of a Research Fellowship dedicated to celebrating the life, artistic legacy, and humanitarian ideals of the legendary cultural icon Zubeen Garg. The fellowship aims to uphold and promote the values of creativity, compassion, cultural unity, and humanism that the beloved “Zubeen Da” embodied throughout his remarkable journey.
Zubeen Garg shared a deep emotional connection with USTM, having visited the campus multiple times for film shoots, including scenes from his acclaimed works and his last film Roi Roi Binale. His warm interactions with students and faculty left an indelible mark on the university community. USTM also takes pride in having conferred upon him the Honorary Doctorate (Honoris Causa) during its 10th Convocation, an honour he accepted with grace and humility.
Addressing a press conference today, Chancellor Mahbubul Hoque, Vice Chancellor Prof. G.D. Sharma, Dr. R.K. Sharma (Principal, IAMC), Prof. (Dr) Subhram Rajkhowa (University School of Law & Research), and Prof. (Dr) Garima Kalita (Department of English) shared details of the initiative.
