USTM Student Dies by Suicide in Guwahati’s Khanapara, Academic Pressure Suspected

Guwahati: A 22-year-old student of the University of Science and Technology, Meghalaya (USTM), reportedly died by suicide at a paying guest accommodation in Guwahati’s Khanapara area on Monday night.

The deceased, identified as Mirjuma Parvin from Bongaigaon, was pursuing a Bachelor of Medical Laboratory Technology (BAMLT) course and had been residing at Green Meadows PG near the Farm Gate connecting road in Khanapara.

According to police reports, Mirjuma was found hanging in her room late in the night. A team from Dispur Police Station arrived at the scene soon after being informed and began an investigation into the incident.

Preliminary findings suggest that the student may have taken the extreme step due to academic pressure, as she had reportedly failed in three subjects. Her family members have stated that they do not suspect any foul play.

The body has been sent to Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) for post-mortem examination, following which it will be taken to Bongaigaon for the final rites.
