Veteran journalist and writer Biman Bihari Dhar and his grandson Rahul Pal were killed in a head-on collision between their car and a passenger bus in Bagma, Tripura, on Thursday.
Gomati District Superintendent of Police Arniban Das said Dhar, 84, was travelling with his 27-year-old grandson towards the Matabari temple in Udaipur when their car collided with an Agartala-bound bus.
Dhar died at the scene, while Rahul sustained critical injuries and was taken to Gomati District Hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries.
Family sources said Rahul had recently secured a job with the Indian Oil Corporation and was travelling with his grandfather to offer prayers at Matabari and celebrate the achievement.
Dhar’s death has prompted condolences from members of Tripura’s media and literary circles, who remembered him for his contributions to journalism and literature.
