Guwahati, April 9: Polling for the Assam Assembly Elections commenced on Thursday morning, with voting underway across all 126 constituencies in Assam.
The voting process began at 7:00 AM on April 9, 2026, covering a total of 31,890 polling stations set up across the state. Long queues of voters were seen early in the morning, reflecting enthusiasm among citizens to participate in the democratic exercise.
Over 2.49 crore eligible voters are expected to cast their ballots in this single-phase election, which will determine the electoral fate of 722 candidates in the fray.
Authorities have put in place stringent security arrangements to ensure smooth and peaceful polling. Personnel from the police and central forces have been deployed extensively across sensitive locations to prevent any untoward incidents.
Officials expressed confidence that the polling process will be conducted in a free, fair, and orderly manner, with continuous monitoring in place throughout the day.
