Shillong: A Wangala dance troupe from the Garo Hills received an overwhelming response during a cultural evening at the Garden Amphitheatre in Sundar Nursery, marking a significant milestone in Meghalaya’s cultural representation at a national level. The performance formed part of the Folk & Tribal Art-Crafts Festival organised by SPIC MACAY and drew a large audience of cultural enthusiasts and art lovers.
The event marked the troupe’s first appearance in the national capital. Their participation was facilitated by Ronald Rikman and Jtasha Rikman, who played a key role in ensuring the dancers from the South-West Garo Hills were selected and showcased on such a prominent platform.
Speaking over the phone, Rikman expressed gratitude for the warm reception the group received in Delhi. He said the enthusiastic applause from audiences across India made the performance especially memorable and shared that he was proud of every performer for carrying the spirit of Wangala beyond Meghalaya.
Rikman also urged greater collective efforts to bring the traditional dance form to international platforms, noting that its cultural significance deserves wider global recognition.
