Woman Content Creator Arrested in Tripura for Alleged Obscene Posts

Agartala: Tripura Police arrested digital content creator Madhavi Biswas on Sunday night for allegedly circulating obscene content on social media. The arrest followed a complaint lodged by Paramita Ghosal of Ramnagar, officials said.

Biswas, who is known for her outspoken videos criticising Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Chief Minister Manik Saha and MP Biplab Kumar Deb, was taken into custody after a police team raided her residence at Jogendranagar in West Tripura district.

According to Rana Chatterjee, Officer-in-Charge of West Agartala police station, a case under various sections of the IT Act and the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) has been registered against her. She is scheduled to be produced before the court on Monday.

Last month, Biswas had faced a similar complaint at East Agartala police station after she criticised the Prime Minister’s brief visit to the Maa Tripura Sundari temple. She was detained and questioned at the time.

Meanwhile, the Tripura Human Rights Organisation (THRO) condemned the arrest, alleging that it was intended to suppress criticism of the state government. THRO member and senior advocate Purushottam Roy Barman claimed that police had been pressuring Biswas to stop voicing her views online. The organisation has demanded her unconditional release.

Police said the investigation is currently underway.
