A 19-year-old woman, Saptami Debnath, has died under mysterious circumstances in Assam’s Lumding, prompting demands for an impartial investigation after allegations of physical and mental harassment by her boyfriend emerged.
Debnath, who lived near Jarangdisa Itabhata Chariali, was reportedly alleged to have posted a note on Instagram before her death referring to the harassment she had faced. The contents of the post and the circumstances surrounding her death have yet to be established.
Her boyfriend, Rohit Das, reportedly a resident of Lumding’s Fish Market area, has been accused of subjecting her to physical and mental harassment. The allegations remain unverified, and it is unclear whether they were connected to her death.
Police have reportedly detained Das’s father in connection with the case, although the reason for his detention has not been made clear.
