Sonitpur, June 29: A training workshop on incense stick packaging and pickle making was organised at Kathalguri in Rupajuli Tea Estate near Binduguri under the Rangapara Legislative Assembly Constituency as part of efforts to promote women’s entrepreneurship and self-employment.
The programme was conducted by Bord BNM Industry under the Bord Industrial Cooperative Society on June 28 with support from the Chief Minister’s Atmanirbhar Asom Scheme.
According to the organisers, the initiative forms part of ongoing efforts to equip rural women with practical skills in cottage-based industries, enabling them to generate sustainable livelihoods through self-employment.
The workshop was led by Namita Saharia, Managing Director of Bord BNM Industry, along with entrepreneur Merina Saikia, who provided hands-on training in incense stick packaging and pickle-making techniques.
Established on July 13, 2023, Bord BNM Industry has been conducting regular training programmes on incense stick production, pickle making and other small-scale enterprises.
The organisers said more than 300 women have already benefited from the initiative and have started manufacturing and marketing locally produced goods, creating independent sources of income.
They added that such skill development programmes are aimed at encouraging financial independence among rural women while promoting entrepreneurship and strengthening the local cottage industry sector.
