World Wildlife Day 2026: Chowna Mein Calls for Stronger Biodiversity Protection in Arunachal Pradesh

Itanagar, March 3: Arunachal Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein on March 2 reaffirmed the State government’s resolve to protect its vast ecological wealth and appealed to citizens to play an active role in preserving forests and endangered wildlife, ahead of World Wildlife Day.

In his message marking the occasion, Mein urged people to embrace their role as responsible custodians of nature, underlining that conservation extends far beyond safeguarding individual species. In a post on X, he called for collective action to defend the planet’s remarkable biodiversity, describing it as a source of life and vibrancy that must be protected with shared responsibility.

Drawing attention to Arunachal Pradesh’s abundant forest cover and extraordinary wildlife diversity, the Deputy Chief Minister noted that the State shelters several rare and threatened species, including the red panda, snow leopard and white-bellied heron. He stressed that protecting such species requires sustained and united efforts from all sections of society.

Mein emphasised the importance of conserving forests, securing endangered fauna and fostering a sustainable balance between human activity and wildlife habitats. He called on citizens to renew their commitment to preserving the State’s natural heritage so that future generations can inherit an environment rich in biodiversity.

Observed each year on March 3, World Wildlife Day aims to increase global awareness about the value of wildlife and biodiversity, highlighting their essential role in maintaining ecological stability and supporting livelihoods worldwide.
