Guwahati: Guwahati witnessed a grim discovery on Monday morning after the body of a young man was recovered under mysterious circumstances in Khanapara. The incident came to light when local residents spotted the body and immediately alerted nearby police authorities. A police team arrived at the location and initiated a preliminary inquiry.
Although the exact cause of death has not yet been officially determined, initial observations suggest the possibility of a drug overdose. Police are currently working to establish the identity of the deceased, as no personal documents were found apart from a volunteer card.
Notably, officers recovered a volunteer identity card of Zubeen Kshetra from around the young man’s neck. This indicates that the deceased had been associated with the Zubeen Garg Kshetra in Sonapur, located not far from where the body was found.
Residents in the area have expressed concern, alleging that the site has been a frequent hotspot for illegal activities, including the consumption of alcohol and narcotic substances. Local people have long been urging stricter surveillance to prevent such incidents.
Police have sent the body for post-mortem examination and further investigation is underway to determine the cause of death and trace the deceased’s identity, as well as to verify any links to illegal substance networks. Authorities are expected to issue more details following the completion of forensic and medical reports.
