Youth Critical After Being Mistaken for Bangladeshi Infiltrator and Assaulted in Assam’s Cachar

Silchar, June 9: Tension has prevailed in the Swadir Khal area along the India-Bangladesh border in Assam’s Cachar district after a youth was allegedly assaulted by a group of miscreants who suspected him of being a Bangladeshi infiltrator.

According to local sources, the incident took place late on Sunday night near a bridge in the Swadir Khal area under Katigorah. The victim, identified as Hussain Ahmed, was reportedly travelling from Saidpur to Gumra when he was intercepted by a group of individuals.

The assailants allegedly mistook Ahmed for a Bangladeshi national and subjected him to a brutal assault. He was reportedly beaten for a prolonged period before being left unconscious by the roadside.

Local residents later rescued the injured youth and rushed him to Kalain Hospital for treatment. Owing to the severity of his injuries, he was subsequently referred to Silchar Medical College and Hospital.

Hospital sources said Ahmed remains in critical condition and is fighting for his life at the medical college.

Following the incident, police launched an investigation to identify and apprehend those responsible for the attack.

The assault has triggered concern among residents and heightened tension in the border area, with locals demanding stringent action against the perpetrators. Police have appealed for calm and said the investigation into the incident is underway.
