ZPM MLA TBC Lalvenchhunga Resigns as Finance and Planning Advisor to Mizoram CM

ZPM legislator TBC Lalvenchhunga has stepped down from his role as Finance and Planning Advisor to Mizoram Chief Minister Lalduhoma, an official confirmed. His resignation comes shortly after the ruling Zoram People’s Movement faced a setback in the Dampa by-election, where the opposition Mizo National Front (MNF) secured the seat.

Lalvenchhunga tendered his resignation on Monday, though Chief Minister Lalduhoma told reporters that he has not accepted it yet. The Chief Minister currently has five advisors with minister of state rank, including four MLAs.

Explaining the move, Lalvenchhunga said he resigned “for the betterment of his party and to improve governance,” adding that his duties as an MLA required complete focus. He stated that he believes he can contribute more effectively to both the administration and the strengthening of ZPM without holding the advisor portfolio.

Lalvenchhunga previously contested the 2018 assembly election and the 2019 Lok Sabha polls as a PRISM party candidate. He defeated MNF’s Zothantluanga to win the Aizawl West-I seat in the 2023 assembly election, after which he was appointed as an advisor to the Chief Minister.
