Zubeen Garg Case Sees Third Hearing as Family Raises Concern Over Delay in Justice

Guwahati, Jan 4: The legal proceedings linked to singer Zubeen Garg continued with the third hearing in the case titled State of Assam vs accused Shyamkanu Mahanta, Siddhartha Sharma, Sekhar Jyoti Goswami, Amrit Prabha Mahanta and others.

Following the hearing, Zubeen Garg’s sister, Palmee Borthakur, expressed serious concern over the pace of the judicial process through a social media post. She said the accused had already strengthened their legal defence, with Amrit Prabha Mahanta filing a bail application, Siddhartha Sharma engaging a Supreme Court lawyer, and Shyamkanu Mahanta appointing legal counsel from Kolkata.

Palmee stated that while the accused were preparing aggressively to contest the case, Garg’s side was still in the process of consolidating its legal team. She warned that any delay in justice could allow the accused, who have been identified by the Special Investigation Team and acknowledged by the Chief Minister, to remain free, posing a threat beyond the singer alone.

Emphasising the broader implications of the case, she said the matter was not a personal dispute but one involving the state itself, adding that failure to ensure justice would affect Assam and its people as a whole.
