Tamarhat: At present, one sentiment echoes in the hearts of every admirer of Zubeen, justice for Zubeen. Various groups and organizations are raising their voices in different ways to demand justice for the beloved artist. Amidst this, a unique form of protest was observed in Kacharigaon, located near the Assam-Bengal border under Tamarhat police station in Dhubri district. A special eight-team “Zubeen Garg Memorial Football Tournament” was organized by the Kacharigaon Sports Club and the Kacharigaon Football Association.
Through this tournament, the organizers paid tribute to the late artist and voiced their demand for justice for him. Zubeen Garg had a deep love for football, and the organizers expressed that this tournament was an attempt to keep his spirit alive through the sport he cherished. Moreover, the organizers announced that the tournament will be held every year in Zubeen Garg’s name. Zubeen Garg was not only associated with music but also had a close connection with nature, wildlife, and physical culture.

Through the game of football, which he dearly loved, the organizers plan to keep Zubeen’s essence alive among us. It is noteworthy that on the day of this one-day football event, a series of programs took place. The day began with a public tribute to Zubeen Garg, and the entire football field resonated with his soulful song “Mayabini.” This was followed by a silent prayer for the peace of his departed soul.
The tournament officially began with the slogan “Justice for Zubeen Garg.” In the final match of the eight-team tournament, Purba Phalimari Sohel FC Club and Kadampur Rainbow Adivasi Society (West Bengal) competed against each other. Purba Phalimari Sohel FC Club emerged victorious with a 1-0 score. Finally, the day’s proceedings concluded with a prize distribution ceremony presided over by Abdur Rashid Sheikh, President of the Tamarhat branch of the Literary Society.
