Zubeen Garg Protest Victim Deepak Medhi Out of Danger After Successful Surgery at AIIMS Changsari


Guwahati: Deepak Medhi, the young man who sustained bullet injuries during a protest by supporters of singer Zubeen Garg outside Baksa District Jail in Nikashi, has successfully undergone surgery at AIIMS, Changsari, and is now reported to be out of danger.

Medhi, who was shot in the back, was rushed to AIIMS following the violent clash that erupted during the demonstration. Doctors at the institute confirmed that the surgery was successful and that he is currently under stable condition and observation.

The incident occurred when protesters gathered outside Baksa Jail to oppose the transfer of Shyamkanu Mahanta and Siddharth Sharma, accused in Zubeen Garg’s mysterious death, to the facility under heavy security. The situation escalated, leading to police firing to disperse the crowd, during which Medhi was injured.

Following the incident, Assam Minister Ranjeet Kumar Dass, on the direction of Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, visited AIIMS to meet Medhi and enquire about his condition. Dass stated that the state government will bear all medical expenses for his treatment and wished him a speedy recovery.

The Chief Minister’s Office (CMO), Assam, has also confirmed that Medhi’s health remains stable and that he continues to receive close medical supervision.
