Zubeen Garg’s Family Votes, Seeks Justice in Death Case

Guwahati, April 9: Family members of late singer Zubeen Garg cast their votes in the ongoing Assembly elections in Assam on Thursday, urging citizens to participate in the democratic process while expressing hope for justice in his death case.

Garima Saikia Garg, wife of the singer, cast her vote in the Dispur constituency in Guwahati despite being unwell. She was accompanied by her sister-in-law Palme Borthakur.

“It is our duty to vote, and that is why, though I am unwell, I have come to exercise my franchise,” she said.

Speaking about the ongoing investigation, Garima said the family remains committed to seeking justice. She expressed hope that the legal process would move forward expeditiously. Borthakur also appealed to citizens to vote, stating that public participation is essential for forming a government of the people’s choice.

Zubeen Garg had died on September 19 last year while swimming in the sea in Singapore, where he had travelled to attend the North East India Festival. A Special Investigation Team of Assam Police’s CID has since probed the case and filed a chargesheet in December, with a fast-track court currently hearing the matter.

Polling for all 126 Assembly constituencies began at 7 a.m. and will continue till 5 p.m., with counting of votes scheduled for May 4.
