Guwahati, Jan 19: Garima Saikia Garg, the wife of late Assamese singer and cultural icon Zubeen Garg, on Monday, January 19, approached the Crime Branch to lodge a complaint against writer Sikha Sarma, alleging that she made derogatory and defamatory remarks about the late artiste on social media.
Sources said the complaint relates to a series of objectionable posts allegedly shared by Sarma on Facebook, in which she is accused of making demeaning and personal comments concerning the character and legacy of Zubeen Garg. The posts reportedly sparked widespread outrage among fans and members of the public, with many demanding legal action.
In her complaint, Garima Garg is understood to have sought strict action under relevant provisions of law, stating that the remarks had tarnished the reputation of a widely respected cultural figure and caused emotional distress to the grieving family.
The Crime Branch has acknowledged receipt of the complaint and is expected to examine the social media content as part of a preliminary inquiry. Officials said further steps would be taken following legal scrutiny of the allegations.
