Guwahati: In a heartfelt announcement on Monday, Garima Saikia Garg declared that the memorial site dedicated to her late husband and Assam’s musical icon, Zubeen Garg, will henceforth be known as ‘Zubeen Khetra’ instead of Samadhi Khetra. Speaking to the media, Garima said the site would serve as a permanent space to preserve and celebrate Zubeen’s artistic and cultural contributions.“This place will not be remembered merely as a memorial, but as a living tribute to Zubeen’s life and ideals,” she stated. “From today, it will be called Zubeen Khetra. We are working closely with the family and authorities to ensure that all of Zubeen’s personal belongings, including his instruments, writings, and memorabilia, are properly preserved here.”
Garima further revealed that discussions have already begun on the design and layout of the proposed Khetra. “Today, all members shared their opinions regarding the structure and aesthetics of the site. Our collective aim is to create a place that reflects Zubeen’s creative spirit and connects deeply with his admirers,” she added. She also mentioned that with the proposed expansion of the nearby national highway to six lanes, the Public Works Department (PWD) will assess and determine the land to be allocated for the project to ensure smooth development without future disruption.
