14 Manipur Civil Society Groups Send Delegation to Delhi Over NRC, Census Delay

Imphal, August 20: A joint delegation representing 14 civil society organisations, along with members of the Naga, Kom and Meitei Pangal communities, left Imphal for New Delhi on Thursday to raise concerns over the proposed National Register of Citizens (NRC) and the delay in conducting the Census.

The delegation is scheduled to meet central leaders in New Delhi and seek their intervention on issues related to the implementation of the NRC and the conduct of the Census.

Representatives of the organisations said they would place their concerns before the central leadership and seek clarity and action on the two issues.

Among those who spoke about the delegation’s visit were AMMOCOC president SM Jalal, RNYOM vice-president Gaikhiam Thaimei, Kom Union Manipur president Serto Hao Kom and Kabui Union president Dr K Heera Kabui.

The visit comes amid continued discussions in Manipur over the NRC and Census, with civil society groups seeking central government intervention on both issues.
