ATMA Sponsored Two-Day Kisan Mela held in Haflong

Haflong: A two-day Kisan Mela was organised in Haflong, Assam’s Dima Hasao district, with the aim of enhancing agricultural productivity and encouraging self-reliance among local farmers. The event was held by the Department of Agriculture in collaboration with allied departments under the Centrally Sponsored Scheme, Agriculture Technology Management Agency (ATMA).

The mela, which began on Tuesday, focused on familiarising farmers with modern agricultural techniques while promoting sustainable and region-specific farming practices suited to the hill district. Farmers from different parts of Dima Hasao participated in large numbers, making the event a vibrant platform for learning and exchange.

A wide range of locally grown crops and agricultural products were displayed at the venue. The Agriculture Department showcased various farming tools, highlighting both traditional implements such as hoes and hand cultivators, and modern agricultural machinery to improve efficiency and productivity.

Several Self-Help Groups (SHGs) also set up stalls to display and sell indigenous and handmade products directly to consumers at affordable prices, providing them an opportunity to enhance their income. Additionally, a ‘Buyers and Sellers’ meet was organised, where farmers showcased and marketed their locally grown organic produce.

Officials stated that the initiative aims to strengthen the link between government support systems and grassroots farmers, while fostering entrepreneurship, sustainable agriculture, and economic self-reliance within the farming community of the district.
