Assam Police’s Valentine’s Day Advisory Blends Romance and Cyber Safety With Witty Campaign

Guwahati, Feb 13: As Valentine’s Day brings roses, heart emojis and romantic messages, Assam Police has issued a light-hearted yet pointed reminder that love should never come at the cost of online safety. Through a creative series of Valentine-themed posters titled “Rules of Falling in Love (With Safety),” the state police combined humour with practical cyber awareness tips.

The first rule delivers a sharp warning: “Your ex might come back, but your stolen money won’t — unless you report financial frauds on 1930.” The message highlights the importance of promptly reporting online financial scams through the national cybercrime helpline to improve chances of recovery.

Another poster advises citizens to “Ignore dry messages, but not scammers. Report it on www.cybercrime.gov.in,” encouraging people to differentiate between harmless social snubs and suspicious online activity. The advisory promotes timely reporting through the official cybercrime portal to prevent fraud.

The campaign also cautions that while ghosting can be emotionally painful, falling victim to a scam can have far more serious consequences. Citizens are urged to recognise red flags, particularly in online relationships that quickly become financially demanding.

In a firm message on personal safety, the police emphasised consent and zero tolerance for harassment: “If someone won’t take NO for an answer, call us. Dial 112.” The advisory reinforces that harassment is not romance and that emergency support is readily available.

Designed with red, heart-filled visuals, the campaign cleverly ties Valentine’s Day symbolism to public safety messaging. With cyber-enabled romance scams and online fraud often rising during festive periods, the initiative underscores a growing focus among law enforcement agencies on digital vigilance.

By pairing humour with awareness, Assam Police’s Valentine outreach sends a clear message — celebrate love, but stay alert and don’t fall prey to fraud.
