Guwahati, Feb 19: Senior Congress leader and Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister D. K. Shivakumar has expressed confidence that voters in Assam are seeking change ahead of the Assembly elections and will vote against the Bharatiya Janata Party.
Describing the upcoming contest as a “curious election” for the state, Shivakumar said the Congress sensed a strong anti-incumbency mood among the electorate. Speaking to reporters in Bengaluru, he stated that the people of Assam were looking for change and asserted that the Congress would return to power.
Shivakumar also announced that senior leaders, including Priyanka Gandhi Vadra and Bhupesh Baghel, would campaign in Assam as part of the party’s outreach efforts. He said that three to four preparatory meetings had already been held to fine-tune the election strategy.
He added that he would personally travel to the state along with other senior leaders and reiterated his confidence in a Congress victory.
The Indian National Congress has stepped up its groundwork in Assam, aiming to consolidate opposition support and mount a strong challenge to the BJP’s dominance. With top leadership actively engaging in campaign planning, the party is positioning the Assam elections as a significant political contest.
