Assam Governor inaugurates new school buildings at Haflong

Guwahati: Lakshman Prasad Acharya, Governor of Assam, on Thursday inaugurated the newly constructed buildings of Vivekananda Vidyalaya and Saraswati Vidya Mandir at Boro Haflong in Dima Hasao District. The Vivekananda Vidyalaya building has been constructed with financial assistance from the North Eastern Council.

Speaking on the occasion, the Governor described the inauguration as a significant milestone for strengthening the educational landscape of Haflong and other hill districts of the state. He said that establishing modern educational infrastructure in remote and tribal-inhabited areas reflects a strong commitment to expanding access to quality education and bringing tribal communities into the mainstream of development.

Acharya also noted that institutions affiliated with Vidya Bharati play an important role in promoting value-based education while empowering local communities through knowledge and learning. He appreciated the efforts of Uttar Purvanchal Janjati Seva Samiti for its work over nearly three decades in uplifting tribal communities in the Northeast through initiatives in education, health and livelihood.

Referring to the ideals of Swami Vivekananda, the Governor said education should focus on character building, self-confidence and social responsibility. He also highlighted the vision of the National Education Policy 2020 in promoting skill development, mother-tongue learning and multidisciplinary education. Among those present were Kumud Devi, Nandita Garlosa, Debolal Gorlosa and Longki Phangcho, along with several officials and members of the autonomous council.
