Tezpur: After Raijor Dal announced his name as its party candidate from Tezpur on Thursday, central general secretary of Raijor Dal and former student leader Alok Nath addressing the media said here that the development came as a surprise for him. “Our party’s focus was on Borsola. I was actively engaged there, and our workers were enthusiastic and well-prepared in the Borsola constituency,” he said. However, refraining from clarifying whether he would eventually emerge as the joint candidate of Raijor Dal, the Indian National Congress, and the opposition alliance from Tezpur, he added that the issue would be reviewed. He stated that there had been no problems at the grassroots level with Congress workers in Borsola, but alleged that the present situation arose due to the Congress leadership’s decision to field Ripun Bora from Borsola. He further said that Raijor Dal president Akhil Gogoi had been making continuous efforts to maintain opposition unity, but the Congress decision regarding the Borsola seat had demoralised both him and party workers.
