NFR Enhances Connectivity with Extension and Operation of Special Trains

Guwahati: The Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) has announced the extension and operation of special train services to accommodate the increased passenger rush during the festive season and improve connectivity between different parts of the country. According to NFR officials, the services of the weekly special train No. 04654/04653 running between Amritsar and New Jalpaiguri have been extended for four additional trips in both directions. The extension is expected to strengthen rail connectivity between northern and eastern regions of India, benefiting passengers travelling from states such as Punjab, Bihar, West Bengal and the Northeastern region.

Train No. 04654 (Amritsar–New Jalpaiguri) weekly special will run every Wednesday from March 4 to March 25, 2026. In the return direction, Train No. 04653 (New Jalpaiguri–Amritsar) will operate every Friday from March 6 to March 27, 2026. The trains will run with their existing schedule, stoppages, timings and composition. In addition, NFR will operate a one-way special train, No. 05699, between Guwahati and Delhi to manage heavy passenger demand between Assam and the national capital.

The special train will depart from Guwahati at 9:30 pm on March 8 and is scheduled to reach Delhi at 1:00 pm on March 10. During its journey, the train will halt at several important stations including Rangiya, New Jalpaiguri, Begusarai, Chhapra, Varanasi and Prayagraj Junction, among others. The train will operate with a combination of AC 2-tier, AC 3-tier, Sleeper Class and General coaches to ensure convenience for passengers. NFR officials stated that the extension and introduction of these special trains will provide additional travel options and help ease congestion on busy routes during the festive period. Passengers have been advised to check detailed information on the IRCTC website or through the official social media platforms of NFR before planning their journey.
