Race Intensifies for BPF Ticket in Kokrajhar Assembly Constituency

Kokrajhar: The race for the Kokrajhar Assembly constituency ticket from the Bodoland People’s Front (BPF) is gaining momentum ahead of the upcoming Assam Legislative Assembly elections, with two prominent leaders emerging as key contenders. Sewli Mohilary, wife of Hagrama Mohilary, the Chief Executive Member of the Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC), is reportedly preparing to contest from the Kokrajhar constituency and has begun outreach efforts to garner support.

As part of her campaign, Sewli Mohilary recently visited the office of the Kokrajhar Town Merchant Association and sought the backing of its members. The association reportedly assured its support and said it would send a recommendation to the party leadership endorsing her candidature. In recent days, she has also toured several areas of the constituency and interacted with residents as part of her grassroots engagement.

Meanwhile, senior BPF leader Pramila Rani Brahma, a former three-time minister in the Assam cabinet, has also expressed interest in contesting from the same seat. She has begun organising pocket meetings and outreach programmes to mobilise support among party workers and voters. With both leaders intensifying their ground-level activities, political observers believe the contest for the BPF nomination in Kokrajhar is set to become one of the closely watched developments in the run-up to the Assembly polls.
