Guwahati, March 11: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Assam on March 13 and 14 to inaugurate several development projects and distribute land rights certificates to members of the tea garden community, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced.
Speaking at a press conference in Guwahati, Sarma said the Prime Minister will dedicate projects worth approximately Rs 10,000 crore to the nation during his visit.
The tour will begin in Kokrajhar, where Modi will inaugurate and lay foundation stones for multiple development initiatives. On March 13, he will also attend a programme in Guwahati and release an instalment of the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-KISAN).
A major highlight of the visit will be the distribution of land pattas to tea garden workers, many of whom have lived in Assam for nearly two centuries without formal land ownership. The Prime Minister is expected to hand over the first land rights certificate to a deserving worker, marking the launch of a state-wide programme for tea garden families.
On March 14, Modi will travel to Silchar to lay the foundation stone of the Silchar–Shillong–Guwahati Express Highway, a project estimated at around Rs 22,000 crore. He will also dedicate the 150 MW Kopili Hydro Power Project to the nation. The Prime Minister will address public gatherings in Kokrajhar, Guwahati and Silchar during the two-day tour.
Separately, Union Home Minister Amit Shah will visit Assam on March 15 to inaugurate the Pragjyotishpur Medical College in Guwahati and attend the Yuva Sankalp Samavesh at Veterinary College Field in Khanapara, which is expected to see participation from around one lakh youth party workers.
The visits come ahead of the 2026 state assembly elections, with the BJP-led government seeking a third consecutive term in Assam.
