Assam Youth Found Dead in Kolkata, Family Demands Probe

Lakhimpur: A youth from Lakhimpur district was found dead in Kolkata on Monday, triggering shock and grief in his native village. The deceased has been identified as Lakhiram Pegu, son of Dhutiram and Basanti Pegu from Khalihamari village under Bogeenadi Police Station area. According to family sources, Pegu was employed with a pharmaceutical company and had recently travelled to Bhubaneswar in Odisha to attend an official business meeting.

Reports said Pegu was returning to his residence in Howrah when he suddenly fell ill during his stay in Kolkata. The caretaker of the hotel where he was staying reportedly found him in a critical condition and rushed him to a nearby hospital. However, he succumbed to his illness on March 9.

The news of his sudden death has sent shockwaves across Khalihamari village and surrounding areas. Family members and villagers have raised several questions regarding the circumstances leading to his death and demanded a thorough investigation into the incident. His mortal remains were brought back to his native village in Khalihamari on Wednesday, where relatives, friends and villagers gathered to pay their last respects. The last rites of the deceased were performed in the presence of a large number of mourners. Local residents have urged the authorities to conduct a proper inquiry to ascertain the exact cause of the youth’s death.
