Raijor Dal Candidate Gyanashree Bora Pledges Transformation for Mariani: Focus on Water, Security, and Tourism

Guwahati, March 13: Dr Gyanashree Bora, Raijor Dal candidate from Mariani constituency, for the upcoming Assam Assembly Election has outlined a comprehensive vision for regional development, emphasizing immediate solutions to long-standing issues such as severe water shortages and border security. Highlighting a significant lack of basic amenities, Bora noted that residents across the constituency are struggling without access to clean drinking water, a problem she promises to prioritize if elected. She also addressed the ongoing Assam-Nagaland border dispute, pointing out the insecurity faced by locals due to land encroachments and calling for diplomatic approach to ensure the safety and livelihoods of those living in border areas.

Central to Bora’s economic plan is the revitalization of Mariani’s cultural and natural heritage to boost tourism. She proposed a major project centered around the memorial of Gomdhar Konwar to establish the region as a significant historical destination. Furthermore, Bora envisions transforming the Gibbon Wildlife Sanctuary into a world-class tourism hub. By implementing scientific conservation methods and resolving human-elephant conflicts, she aims to create sustainable employment opportunities for the local youth and women through the development of eco-tourism and small-scale industries.

Bora did not hold back in her critique of the current leadership Rupjyoti Kurmi who is the present MLA from ruling BJP party, noting that despite the incumbent MLA serving five terms, Mariani continues to lag in essential sectors like healthcare and education. She pointed out the absence of basic diagnostic machinery in health centers and the lack of a dedicated veterinary hospital, which severely impacts the region’s many livestock farmers. Additionally, she highlighted the neglect of tea garden workers, pledging to fight for a minimum daily wage of 500 rupees and improved welfare services, including land rights and better educational facilities for their children.

Taking a dig at Rupjyoti Kurmi, Bora emphasized that a representative’s role extends beyond social appearances to active participation in the Legislative Assembly. She vowed to be a vocal advocate for Mariani, ensuring that development projects are not just planned but effectively executed with transparency. From improving irrigation for farmers to addressing the impact of artificial reservoirs on local livelihoods, Bora positioned herself as a candidate dedicated to data-driven solutions and the overall socio-economic upliftment of the constituency.
