Arms, Explosives Including 7-ft Rocket Recovered in Manipur’s Churachandpur

Imphal, March 15: Security forces in Manipur recovered a cache of arms and explosive materials from the Old Nabil located east of Thangjing Top under Henglep Police Station in Churachandpur district on March 14.

According to official sources, the recovered items included a country-made rocket measuring nearly seven feet in length and suspected to contain about 60 kilograms of explosive material. Authorities said the discovery raised serious concerns about the device’s potential destructive capability.

Security forces also seized a country-made single-barrel firearm, seven empty 7.62 mm cartridge cases, four magazines, a mortar bomb and an improvised mortar device locally known as a “pumpi”.

Officials said the recovery was made during a search and area domination exercise carried out in vulnerable and fringe areas as part of intensified counter-insurgency operations across the state.

Authorities added that surveillance and combing operations have been strengthened in both hill and valley districts to prevent any resurgence of militant activity. As part of the security measures, around 115 nakas and checkpoints have been set up at strategic locations across the state. No arrests were reported during the operations.

Meanwhile, security forces facilitated the movement of 271 vehicles carrying essential commodities along National Highway 37, one of the key lifelines linking Manipur with other parts of the country.

Officials stated that strict security arrangements have been put in place at vulnerable points along the highway, with security convoys deployed in sensitive stretches to ensure the safe movement of vehicles transporting essential supplies.
