Dhakuakhana: Preparations for this year’s Fatobihu celebrations have begun following the formation of a new organising committee at a general council meeting held at Mohghuli Chapari. The meeting was presided over by the outgoing president of the Fatobihu committee, Basanta Saikia, at the permanent garden of Mohghuli Chapari. The celebrations were not held in 2025 after a terror attack by Pakistani militants in Pahalgam in Jammu and Kashmir, which led to the cancellation of several cultural programmes.
During the meeting, the Fatobihu Celebration Committee 2026 was constituted to organise this year’s festival. Hemanta Gogoi was elected as president of the committee, while Minu Bora Das, Arun Chamua and Nilotpal Devgoswami were chosen as vice-presidents. Chandrajit Saikia was appointed as the general secretary. Members present at the meeting expressed hope that the festival would be celebrated with enthusiasm this year after the gap in 2025. They also discussed plans to organise a series of cultural and community activities as part of the three-day celebration.
