Agartala, March 17: The Tripura Legislative Assembly on March 17 passed a motion commending the recent successes of India’s women’s, men’s, and Under-19 cricket teams in ICC tournaments, describing the achievements as a matter of national pride.
Speaker-in-charge Ram Prasad Paul highlighted the Indian women’s team for winning the ICC Women’s ODI World Cup 2025, defeating South Africa by 52 runs in the final on November 2 at Dr D Y Patil Stadium, Navi Mumbai. The House acknowledged the team’s efforts under captain Harmanpreet Kaur, marking India’s first title in the tournament and ending a long wait since previous final appearances in 2005 and 2017.
The motion also recognised the India Under-19 men’s team for claiming the ICC Under-19 World Cup on February 6, 2026, defeating England by 100 runs in the final at Harare Sports Club Stadium, Zimbabwe. Opener Vaibhav Suryavanshi scored a record 175 off 80 balls, contributing to India’s total of 411 for 9, while England were bowled out for 311. This victory marked India’s sixth Under-19 World Cup title.
Further, the Assembly congratulated the senior men’s team for winning the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026, defeating New Zealand by 96 runs on March 8 at Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad. India posted 255 for 5, with key contributions from Sanju Samson (89), Abhishek Sharma (52), Ishan Kishan (54) and Shivam Dube (26). New Zealand were bowled out for 159, with Jasprit Bumrah taking four wickets and being named Player of the Match. Sanju Samson was also named Player of the Tournament. The title marked India’s third T20 World Cup victory after wins in 2007 and 2024, under the leadership of Suryakumar Yadav.
Members noted that these accomplishments reflect sporting excellence and will inspire young athletes nationwide, extending congratulations to players, coaches, and support staff while expressing confidence in continued success for Indian cricket.
