Tamulpur: The United People’s Party Liberal (UPPL) has released its first list of candidates for the upcoming Assembly elections, naming seven nominees, including party president Pramod Boro. Following the announcement, Boro visited the UPPL offices at Baganpara, Dorangajuli and the Tamulpur district headquarters under the 43 Tamulpur Assembly constituency on Tuesday. He received a rousing welcome from party workers, who raised slogans in his support.
At a workers’ meeting held at the district office, attended by district president Jalen Daimari, Boro addressed party members and sought their guidance ahead of the elections. Senior leaders, including former MLA Chandi Basumatary and MCLA Wilson Hasda, also spoke on the occasion. Speaking to reporters, Boro confirmed his candidature from Tamulpur and said the remaining names would be announced soon in a second list. He expressed confidence that UPPL would secure a majority of the 15 seats in the Bodoland region.

“I am not interested in becoming an MLA; I have come to serve the people,” Boro said, adding that he aims to work at the BTC, Legislative and parliamentary levels. On a possible alliance with the Indian National Congress, Boro said discussions could take place in due course. Responding to speculation over NDA candidate Biswajit Daimary, he extended greetings, saying the party would act in its best interest while prioritising long-term development.
