Air India, Air India Express begin operations from Guwahati Airport’s new T2

Guwahati: Air India and Air India Express on Tuesday commenced all flight operations from the newly inaugurated Terminal 2 (T2) of Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport, marking a major boost to air connectivity in the Northeast. The first Air India flight to arrive at the new terminal was AI 879 from Delhi, which landed earlier in the day. Its return leg, AI 880 to Delhi, became the airline’s inaugural departure from T2.

To mark the occasion, Air India showcased Assam’s cultural heritage by serving traditional narikolor laru to passengers onboard the inaugural flight. The first check-in passenger was also felicitated with a traditional Assamese gamusa, highlighting the airline’s effort to connect communities through cultural gestures. Air India Express also began its operations from the new terminal with flight IX 1517 from Kolkata, which was its first arrival at T2. The onward journey to Imphal marked the airline’s maiden departure from the facility.

At present, Air India operates two daily return flights between Delhi and Guwahati. Meanwhile, Air India Express connects Guwahati with 17 daily flights to key cities including Bengaluru, Chennai, Delhi, Dibrugarh, Dimapur, Hyderabad, Imphal, Jaipur and Kolkata. Officials said ground teams of both airlines are fully prepared to assist passengers and ensure smooth operations at the modern terminal, which is expected to significantly enhance travel experience and regional connectivity.
