Guwahati, March 18: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on March 18 said the Bharatiya Janata Party is poised to witness a fresh round of inductions in Assam, with several leaders expected to join the party in the coming days ahead of the Assembly elections.
Speaking to reporters in New Delhi, Sarma indicated that individuals, including Navajyoti Talukdar, who recently resigned from the Indian National Congress, are likely to formally join the BJP in Guwahati soon. He added that the party is in the final stages of finalising its list of candidates, which is expected to be approved later in the day.
Sarma said the political developments are part of a broader trend, with more leaders set to switch sides over the next two to three days across the state. He emphasised that the process of realignment would continue beyond a single round of inductions as the elections approach.
Responding to queries about specific individuals, including Imran Masood, the Chief Minister declined to comment in detail, remarking that he would not speak on individuals at this stage.
The developments come amid heightened political activity in the state, with parties intensifying preparations and strategic positioning ahead of the upcoming Assembly elections.
