CM Sarma Launches Women’s Entrepreneurship Drive

Inaugurates 100-Bed Hospital in West Karbi Anglong

Karbi Anglong: In a major push to rural entrepreneurship and healthcare, Assam Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma today rolled out two landmark initiatives in the Rongkhang Legislative Assembly Constituency of West Karbi Anglong.

At a seed capital distribution programme under the Mukhyamantri Mahila Udyamita Abhiyan (MMUA), held at Waisong Stadium in Dongkamukam, nearly 19,000 women from Self Help Groups received cheques of Rs. 10,000 each to support their entrepreneurial ventures. The event, organized by the Panchayat and Rural Development Department, was attended by Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council Chief Executive Member Dr. Tuliram Ronghang, Minister Nandita Garlosa, MP Amarsing Tisso, and other dignitaries.

Addressing the largely women audience, the Chief Minister urged the beneficiaries to use the funds judiciously for sustainable livelihoods. “Buying mobiles or garments for Puja from this amount will not benefit you,” he said, encouraging them to invest in small-scale businesses like pickle-making, piggery, or goatery. He highlighted that the scheme offers an incremental pathway, with successful entrepreneurs eligible for Rs. 25,000 in the second year and Rs. 50,000 in the third year.

Later in the day, Dr. Sarma inaugurated a 100-bed district hospital at Hamren, a move aimed at strengthening healthcare infrastructure in the hill district. The hospital is expected to significantly improve access to quality medical care for residents of the region.

Together, the initiatives reflect the government’s twin focus on women’s economic empowerment and inclusive healthcare development across Assam.
