Assam Elections 2026: BPF Releases First Candidate List for 11 BTR Seats

Guwahati, March 20: The Bodoland People’s Front, a constituent of the National Democratic Alliance, announced its first list of candidates for the Assam Legislative Assembly elections 2026 shortly before midnight on March 19, marking the beginning of its campaign in the politically significant Bodoland Territorial Region.

The announcement was made at the party’s headquarters in Kokrajhar by BPF president Hagrama Mohilary, who outlined the party’s focus on key constituencies across the BTR, a region that has traditionally formed the core of its political base.

In its first list, the party named Sabharam Basumatary from Gossaigaon, Rabiram Narzary from Dotma (ST), Sewli Mohilary from Kokrajhar (ST), and Rupam Roy from Baokhungri. Dr Rezul Karim has been fielded from Parbotjhora, while Paniram Brahma will contest from Sidli-Chirang (ST).

The list also includes Thaneswar Basumatary from Manas, Maneswar Brahma from Baksa (ST), Maheswar Boro from Bhergaon, Rihon Daimary from Udalguri (ST), and Charan Boro from Mazbat, reflecting a combination of experienced leaders and regional figures.

The announcement signals the BPF’s intent to consolidate its presence in the BTR, setting the stage for a closely contested electoral battle as multiple parties gear up to field strong candidates ahead of the April 2026 polls.
