Guwahati, March 21: The Bharatiya Janata Party on March 21 announced its second list of candidates for the upcoming Assembly elections in Assam, naming nominees for two constituencies.
According to an official statement issued by the party’s Central Election Committee, Sushri Krishna Saha has been fielded from the 51-Dalgaon constituency, while Jiban Gogoi has been nominated from the 79-Sissibargaon seat.
The development comes as part of the party’s ongoing exercise to finalise its candidates ahead of the high-stakes polls. The BJP had earlier released its first list comprising 88 candidates, covering a majority of constituencies.
Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma had stated on March 19 that the BJP Central Parliamentary Board had finalised candidates for 88 out of 89 constituencies, with the remaining seat—Sissibargaon—expected to be announced shortly.
Sarma also said the party aimed to maintain balanced representation in its selections, including youth, women, Scheduled Tribes, Scheduled Castes, and members of the Nath community. He added that party workers across the state have responded positively to the candidate list and expressed confidence in the BJP’s electoral prospects.
He further noted that under the NDA alliance arrangement, the BJP has allotted 26 seats to its ally, the Asom Gana Parishad.
