Police sources said Mollah tried to intervene and defuse the situation but soon realised the dispute was linked to alleged drug-related activities in the locality. The situation escalated after he reportedly warned the group of informing the police. The FIR names five accused—Amir Hussain Sikdar, his wife Aysha Khatun, and their sons Amirul Sikdar, Ashiqul Sikdar, and Ariful Sikdar—who allegedly attacked Mollah with sharp weapons. He sustained a severe neck injury, while his wife was also assaulted when she rushed to his rescue.

Despite his injuries, Mollah managed to reach the police station, prompting swift action. Both victims were later admitted to Dhubri Medical College and Hospital, where he underwent emergency treatment. From his hospital bed, Mollah alleged that the accused had been involved in drug activities and threatened to kill him and his wife when confronted. The incident has sparked public outrage, with residents demanding strict action. Police said all five accused are currently absconding, and a manhunt has been launched. Further investigation is underway.
