Eid Day Clash in Bongaigaon Leaves Policeman Injured, Three Detained

Guwahati, March 22: An Eid al-Fitr gathering in Srijangram Borghola area of Assam’s Bongaigaon district turned tense after a clash between locals and police left an on-duty personnel injured.

The incident occurred on a bridge over the Aie River, where a large crowd had assembled to mark the festival. Police had been deployed at the site to manage heavy congestion and ensure public safety.

Trouble reportedly began when police attempted to intercept a speeding motorcycle on the bridge. The rider allegedly tried to escape, resulting in an accident. The situation escalated soon after, with a section of the crowd reportedly confronting police and engaging in a scuffle.

During the altercation, a police constable, Nazrul Islam, sustained injuries.

Senior officers reached the spot and brought the situation under control. Authorities have detained three individuals for questioning in connection with the incident.

Police said an investigation is underway to establish the sequence of events and initiate appropriate legal action.
