Haflong: A Resident Engineer of a private construction firm has reportedly fled Haflong town in Assam’s Dima Hasao district after being accused of sexually harassing a female colleague. The accused, Rajesh Kumar (58), a native of Bihar’s Muzaffarpur district, was working with Nippon Koei India Pvt. Ltd., which is engaged in constructing a 90-km road from Lower Haflong to Haflong Tiniali.
According to police, Kumar had allegedly been harassing a female staff member for several months through obscene messages and verbal misconduct. Based on the victim’s complaint, an FIR (Case No. 15/2026) has been registered at Haflong Police Station under Section 75(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), dealing with sexual harassment.

The complaint further alleges that Kumar repeatedly called the victim to his residence at night and even offered her a promotion in exchange for sexual favours. When she refused, he allegedly withheld her salary for two months. The victim also claimed that Kumar left behind a resignation letter bearing a forged signature of office manager Supratim Dey, who is suspected of assisting in his escape.
Despite informing Project Manager Deepjyoti Saikia, no action was taken, the victim alleged. Police officials confirmed that efforts are underway to trace the आरोपी, and alerts have been issued to multiple locations, including his hometown. He will be brought back to Haflong for legal proceedings once apprehended.
