Entertainment, March 25: HBO has released the first official glimpse of its highly anticipated television adaptation of Harry Potter, offering fans an early look at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry and signalling significant progress on the project.
A still shared on the series’ official social media channels shows Dominic McLaughlin, cast as Harry Potter, walking toward the Quidditch pitch in full Gryffindor attire. His cloak, featuring his name and player number, highlights the character’s early involvement in the sport, a key aspect of his journey at the school. The image captures a bustling campus scene, with students gathering near the pitch and Gryffindor and Hufflepuff banners flying overhead, reflecting the production’s emphasis on scale and immersive detail.
Filming is underway at Warner Bros. Studios Leavesden in the United Kingdom, the same studio that hosted much of the original film franchise. The new ensemble cast includes Alastair Stout as Ron Weasley and Arabella Stanton as Hermione Granger, alongside veteran actors John Lithgow as Albus Dumbledore, Janet McTeer as Minerva McGonagall, Paapa Essiedu as Severus Snape, and Nick Frost as Rubeus Hagrid. Production design is being led by Mara LePere-Schloop.
The series, developed by HBO with Francesca Gardiner as showrunner and Mark Mylod directing, is planned as a long-form retelling of J.K. Rowling’s original books. Rowling serves as an executive producer alongside Neil Blair, Ruth Kenley-Letts, and David Heyman. The format is intended to allow for a deeper exploration of Harry’s discovery of his magical identity, his friendships with Ron and Hermione, and his ongoing conflict with Lord Voldemort, offering a more detailed adaptation than the film series.
